chiropractor explaining a bulging disc

Many people suffer from chronic lower back pain, but if you have persistent or worsening lower back pain combined with the symptoms below, you may have a bulging disc. Our chiropractor in Manassas can provide diagnostic testing to confirm you have a bulging disc, and then design a customized chiropractic care plan to treat your condition. Some of the most common signs of a bulging disc include:

1. Muscle Weakness

A bulging disc affects one side of the body, and in addition to lower back pain, you might experience muscle weakness on one side of your body. If you notice that you have trouble walking because your leg feels weak, or like it’s about to give out on you, you might have a bulging disc.

2. Numbness and Tingling

A bulging disc can also cause a numb or tingling feeling that runs from your lower back down one of your legs. It may stretch all the way to your foot, making it hard to walk or keep your balance. Some people describe the feeling as being like pins and needles.

3. Shooting Pain

If you have a bulging disc, your back pain may feel like it’s shooting or radiating from your back down one of your legs.

4. Increased Pain During Certain Activities

Certain activities may increase your lower back pain. If you have lower back pain that is worse when you spend a long time sitting or standing, it might be caused by a bulging disc. You may not even be able to find relief from your lower back pain when you’re lying in bed. Your pain may also worsen at night, during exercise, or when you’re bending or stretching to reach something or pick something up.

5. Pain That Affects Your Daily Routine

If your lower back pain and other symptoms are severe enough that they are affecting your daily routine, you should visit our chiropractor, Dr. Robert Breen, for diagnosis and treatment. Make an appointment with Dr. Breen if your pain prevents you from sleeping, eating, working, exercising, spending time with family or friends, or participating in your hobbies or other activities you enjoy.
